The Mummified Kobold from Palermo curiosity piece
The kobold from palermo. This mummified kobold comes in a hundred year old wooden box with iron hinges. This is a true conversational curiosity piece about (for instance) the capuchin catacombs in palermo, religion and folklore. Detail from the backstory. On one dark day, dantolo went to visit matteo again, maybe just to feel a bit more freedom there than in his own home. As he approached the door, the house seemed unusually quite. He stepped inside to find his grandfather dead in the bed. He must have been died in his sleep. Next to the bed, there was a tiny creature sitting, silently crying – the kobold. Dantolo screamed, but the kobold did not run away. It turned, still sobbing a bit, then invitingly reached out with his arms towards dantolo. The boy acted quickly: without a second thought he picked up a fruit basket from the floor, grabbed the kobold and closed the lid. The creature cried in a high pitched, uncanny voice that dantolo never-ever heard before. He was upset because his grandfather was right all along his anger burned his insides, he wanted to cause pain and destroy the living evidence of his narrow-mindedness at once. He began spinning the basket around himself until the point the little man inside fainted. Then, he went to the shed and took an old toolbox in which he put the unconscious kobold’s body. With strings, he tied the kobold’s hands and feet. The poor little creature was hardly fitting in the narrow box – it was so tight – and still, dantolo locked it and took it with him.
